Many people assume water damage only happens after intense storm weather, however water damage can happen anywhere and at anytime inside a residential or commercial building. That said, one of the primary spots in the house or office that water damage occurs is the kitchen.

Because the kitchen is such a "hot spot
for water damage, below we've listed the top 3 areas to look for water damage.

Knowing where problem spots are in the kitchen can help you know where to keep an eye out for leaks and ultimately, protect your kitchen from the harmful effects of water damage.

Hotspot #1 The Dishwasher
Due to the frequent use of this appliance, it isn't uncommon for leaks to develop causing the dishwasher to overfill with water and subsequently leak out causing water damage.

Frequently check for water accumulating beneath the dishwasher in order to catch any leaks as soon as possible and limit the water damage

Hotspot #2 The Sink
Sinks are the number one source of running water in a kitchen, and as such are one of the primary spots we see water damage occur.

Sink leaks can have a variety of causes, ranging from a drain or faucet leak to corroded sink parts.

Be sure to inspect piping underneath the sink about every 6 months and keep an eye out for puddles of water and corroded sections.

Hotspot #3 The Refrigerator and Ice Maker
The refrigerator and ice maker are also susceptable to leaking and subsequent water damage.

In order to catch a leak before irreparable damage is done, look for pools of water on the floor beneath the fridge and ice maker. For further water damage prevention, refrigerators and ice makers should receive regular maintenance and inspection.

Leaks in the kitchen causing water damage can result in major structural damage, as well as the growth of mold and mildew. If you noticed any leaking or water damage in the aforementioned "hotspots" or anywhere in your home or office, remember, SERVPRO is here to help.
